The Copper Coast Geopark Centre

[Ex- Monksland Church, Knockmahon, Co. Waterford]

What we call the beginning is often the end

The Copper Coast Geopark Centre

About half way along the Copper Coast is
the village of Bunmahon and a little east of the village,
over the bridge, is Knockmahon.
Just off the main road you will probably catch
sight of the white tower of the old church.
This has now become our centre and
we would love you to call in!

Here we can tell you about the Copper Coast
and its history, heritage and geology.
You can have a cup of coffee and a chat,
wander around our exhibition, which looks at the mining
that used to happen here, our geology and
some of the interesting people
who passed through the Copper Coast in times past.

The Centre is open Wednesday - Sunday
from 11.00 until 4.30.

We are delighted to host special events
in the evening, which should be arranged with Paula
at 051 292828 or info@coppercoastgeopark.com

Do keep an eye on the
Copper Coast Geopark Facebook page
for news of anything fun, interesting or both which
might be happening!

The building itself used to be a church
but it closed about 60 years ago and gradually decayed.
We bought it several years ago,
when it was covered in ivy, the roof was weakened
and the inside was derelict and with great help
from Leader funding we have done it up
to what you can visit now.

The nature of the funding means that
we have quite a debt still to be repaid (€50,000)
and any charges that we make go
towards running the centre and lowering that debt.
Of course any donation that anyone
can make gives a great boost to
our financial condition and to our morale!

Already we have plenty happening in our Centre!

Though we received generous funding from Waterford Leader Partnership,
there is, as usual, a substantial proportion of matching funding
that we must find. Our target is in the region of €50,000.

Should any one wish to make a donation towards the Building Fund they can do so
