Education Programs

Primary Schools

Our primary school education programs are curriculum linked and specially designed to engage children with both Earth Science and broader STEM concepts in a fun and hands on manner.

All of the activity packages listed below and in the brochures are guides which can be modified by consultation with our staff in order to accommodate your students educational needs or to tie in with any other aspect of the curriculum as required. The following programs are available:

Secondary Schools

The Copper Coast Geopark offers a unique setting and expertly guided secondary school field trips which cover such topics as rock and landscape forming processes and the origins of the landscapes of Ireland, plate tectonics and the rock cycle, the ice age – glacial features, natural resources and our mining history, medieval history and biodiversity.
The dynamic coastal landscape of the Copper Coast is ideal for exploring concepts related to coastal erosion, climate change and the interaction between humans the landscape.
We can also offer trips of varying lengths which can also tie in with adventure activities such as kayaking, surfing and coastal exploration for different age groups.

Our guided field trips can also be linked into leaving cert geographical investigations as well as to other aspects of the 2nd level Junior and Leaving cert courses on request.

For all Levels Health & Safety

Health and Safety is of primary importance for our school activities at all levels. All of our education and fieldwork programmes are risk assessed regularly and led by suitably experienced staff.

Teaching Resources

All available programs can be fully adapted to meet the needs of the school/students and in certain circumstances programs can be run in conjunction with each other. Students will receive a workbook to accompany their fieldwork and teachers can avail of additional teaching resources if required.

Outreach Opportunities

Geopark staff members also carry out visits to schools (where possible) and organise special educational events at various times throughout the year. The Copper Coast Global Geoparks hosts interactive earth science based work shops through the year in conjunction with events such as Science Week and Heritage Week with activities such as making your own volcano and earthquake simulation.
