Self Guided Tours With the Geotours App
Explore more of the Copper Coast UNESCO Global Geopark using the Geotours app.
The Geotours app features a selection of favourite walks and places to explore across the Copper Coast, with tours suitable for children and families.
Each route includes directions, images and things to spot, and many include audio and quiz questions themed around the geology, history and wildlife of the area. The tours are designed to be used on location, but can also be viewed at home if you’d like to know what to expect or find out about somewhere you’re not visiting.
The app also includes tours in other Geoparks along the European Atlantic Geotourism Route – an international selection of areas with stunning landscapes, distinctive wildlife and fascinating cultures – so you can explore some of these destinations from the comfort of your own home or even plan a future trip.
Using the App
The Geotours app is available on most Android and Apple mobile devices and can be downloaded from the app stores. Download the app and select Copper Coast to view the available tours in the area. Each tour on the list downloads separately and it’s best to download a chosen tour before you set off as some sites have no internet coverage. Each tour contains some basic directions for getting to the start point. Choose from the following Geotours:
This 5km route follows a trail along the Anne Valley meandering past Dunhill Castle and through a unique wetland habitat.
A route around the historic mining village of Bunmahon and nearby mining heritage sites including Tankardstown and Stage Cove.
A selection of sites along the entire Copper Coast that explore the Geology of the area.
An exploration of the culture, heritage and biodiversity of the Mahon river that flows out to sea at Bunmahon.
